Terrestrial Energy Announces Additions of Michael Edwards and Paul Blanchard to International Advisory Board

MISSISSAUGA, ON – February 10, 2015 – Terrestrial Energy Inc. (the “Company”) announces that it is making two additions to its International Advisory Board: Mr. Michael Edwards and Dr. Paul Blanchard.  Mr. Edwards has had a 20+ year career with Babcock & Wilcox (BWC:NYSE), including most recently in a senior management position for the Generation mPower Small Modular Reactor project.  Dr. Blanchard has provided senior communications services to NASA, Morgan Stanley (MS:NYSE), John Templeton Foundation and many other prestigious organizations internationally.  The Company is extremely pleased to welcome these new members to its International Advisory Board.

Michael Edwards

Michael Edwards is a career nuclear engineer who, since 1991, has had successively increasing management roles in the nuclear energy practice at Babcock & Wilcox, a large nuclear engineering and construction firm, based in North Carolina, USA.  For the past five years, Mr. Edwards managed the design team for the mPower reactor, a Small Modular Reactor being developed by B&W.  In 2012, the mPower project was selected by the US Department of Energy as the leading SMR technology, and was awarded grant funding of $226 million USD.  Prior to joining mPower, Mr. Edwards led a team at Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group, responsible for the design, analysis, and subsequent manufacturing support of nuclear reactors and pressurizers for the U.S. Navy. Mr. Edwards has filed numerous patents, published numerous scientific papers, and has presented at international symposia.  He earned his BSc in Engineering Physics from the University of Maine.

Paul Blanchard

Dr. Blanchard has a career in scientific and technical communication that spans nearly 40 years, including projects in astronomy and astrophysics, aerospace technology, Earth science, information technology, and financial services.  For the past 20 years, Dr. Blanchard’s clients have included the Institute of International Education, the John Templeton Foundation, Morgan Stanley, The Dilenschneider Group (public relations), InteQ Corporation, GreenAudit, Inc., and the National Ocean Service.  Dr. Blanchard was previously Senior Principal Staff Member, BDM International, Inc., in Washington, D.C.; founder and President of Space Research & Management, Inc., also in Washington; and Senior Scientist, Fairchild Space Company, in Germantown, Maryland.  In these positions, he often worked on behalf of NASA officials to justify NASA’s space-science programs to the U.S. Congress.  Dr. Blanchard was earlier Special Assistant to the Director, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics; Research Associate, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center; and Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Tufts University.  Dr. Blanchard earned BAs in Physics and Philosophy from Yale University, his MA Physics from the University of Cambridge, his PhD in Astronomy from Harvard University, and his MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Simon Irish, CEO of Terrestrial Energy, made these comments with respect to these appointments: “Messrs. Edwards and Blanchard are highly credentialed in their respective careers.  Terrestrial Energy is honoured to have the services of these exemplary professionals.  It is clear that Mr. Edwards’ nuclear project management experience while at Babcock & Wilcox, and particularly in its mPower unit, is highly relevant to the IMSR project as the Company enters the next phase of development.  Dr. Blanchard’s ability to communicate complex technical subject matter to a broad array of constituencies will serve the Company well as it seeks to make the case for the IMSR as a future source of carbon-free and safe industrial heat and power for global industry.  We look forward with anticipation to the contributions of these two new team members.”
